Migrating to another Mac... Can Time Machine be left untouched?

Hi there.

I am planning to use the Migration assistant to move everything off one Mac to another...

But I have a Time Machine of the first machine already set up. Is it possible to migrate over to the new machine, then just point its Time Machine where the original back up is?

Or would I even have to to do that, since migration assistant might keep that setting too....
