I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and will soon be ordering the new Retina MBP... Is it possible to restore maybe a Time Machine backup from the old MBP onto the new one so the only thing that changes for me is the hardware itself? I don't want to have to start fresh and manually copy files over, re-customize all the machine's settings, re-install apps, setup my Mail and iCloud accounts again, etc. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this, or what are my options?

You can transfer everything from the backup (or from the computer itself) using Migration Assistant. It'll take care of everything for you. I wouldn't recommend restoring directly from a Time Machine backup. Sometimes things can go wrong when doing that with a backup from another computer. Just go with Migration Assistant.

Which is better: Migration or restoring from backup?
