I've got my new MacBook Pro, my old MacBook Pro, all the cables I need, and a current backup Time Machine Backup on a new external hard drive. This is not the first time I've used Migration assistant, but it is the first time I have things already installed on my new MBP that I don't want altered by a migration.

Should I migrate my user files and documents (and some applications) directly from the old laptop or should I use the migration assistant to copy certain parts of the last Time Machine backup. Is there any benefit of one over the other?

I've got an older version of Creative Suite 2 (and all my user preferences) on the old MBP. I have the new CS4 already on the new laptop. If I transfer my user library, will I have a problem with the Adobe applications folder in my library since the user library stuff is older than what is on the new MBP? Do I need to remove all the Adobe folders from my user library so that they won't overwrite the newer folders on the new MPB with CS4?

Ditto this for Office. I have an older version on the old MBP and the newest version of Office already installed on the new MBP.

Thanks.
