My story is a long one so I'll try and keep it as short as possible. I fried my imac G5 by turning it off at the button when it crashed, forgetting that software update was open. A certain amount of googling and debates with the friend who came round to repair it left me with a new 750gig lacie and new copy of leopard (i was still on tiger). We managed to repair the disk because my friend has disk warrior (which did what drive genius and disk utility couldn't, as many forum posts we read had predicted). But disk warrior decided that it couldn't repair the disk entirely, gave up and suggested we start again. It was obvious my mac was never gonna boot the OS again without the clean sweep my new copy of leopard could bring so we decided to settle for the fact my main HD was mounting with all the User folders intact and switch them around so i could get what data i need later.
We switched the HDs around and my mac now works fine, plus I can access all my old data, only I know about 20 folders worth of library files and other system stuff was overlapping on that drive. Should I attempt to use migration assistant to move all my old files across or just take what i need manually?
I really want to have all my apps again. I often took my computer into work on jobs years ago where they gave me software licenses for my troubles (I freelance in the film industry). Other software, such as word, would require a new license key if i were to reinstall (and only allows me 3). Most of the software is outdated now (Adobe After FX 7 and CS1) but it was legitimate and I'm the only person for whom that key was used, altho I no longer have the keys or the install disks cos the sys admin guy would just install from his disk having bulk bought licenses and i never thought to make a note of the keys.
I haven't even looked at migration assistant yet, but I don't want to risk it unless I'm sure that my corrupted library files won't present an issue, cos otherwise I can just move all the other folders over myself.
Thanks for any help you can give and your patience with my rambling. It's been pretty stressful getting this far...
