Migration Assistant cannot see TM backup

Hi,

In the process of doing a transfer from a late 2012 to a 2013 machine.

Time machine backup is on an external drive, however Migration Assistant cannot identify the backup.

The backup can be seen in Finder, and works fine on the older machine.

I also tried doing another backup on a different drive but have the same issue.

Any pointers?

Hi, it is yes.

I have tried 2 drives, a 4TB WD drive via Firewire and a 3TB WD via USB.

Were the TM backups made in Mountain Lion and the new system has Mavericks, by any chance?

No, both machines are on the same version of Mavericks.... weird isnt it...

Edited to add: The backup was likely started in Mountain Lion though if that's significant.

Apple support had no idea either, including the Senior advisors.

All they could recommend was to copy everything over manually which I have done.
