I recently did a clean install of 10.6. After I used it for a little while, I used migration assistant to bring in my files, applications, etc from my 10.5 time machine backups. After it finished, I downloaded some files as well as creating some word documents without restarting the computer. I didn't turn or restart the computer until this morning.

Once I restarted the computer this morning, it loaded back up with stuff on the desktop that was from my time machine backups. All the files I had downloaded and created after using migration assistant but before I restarted the computer seemed to have disappeared. I can't find them at all with spotlight.

Are they gone forever?
