I just got a brand new macbook and wanted to transfer my files from my old ibook to it, so I started up the migration assistant and followed its instructions. I got to the point where I was transferring files and the computer informed me that there would be a wait of about 1 hour and 16 minutes. Unfortunately, I needed to leave the computer unattended during this time, so I set the energy saver to not go to sleep for over 3 hours and off I went. Well, when I returned (about an hour and a half later) I discovered that the computer had put itself to sleep anyways. I woke the machine up only to discover that the migration assistant still thought that there would be 1 hour and 16 minutes until transfer was complete, and the progress bar hadn't budged one iota since I'd left.

Now, I assume that it didn't transfer any files after it went to sleep, but even since I've woken it up it still hasn't done anything. Migration assistant has now been running for almost 4 hours and has hardly made any progress, and is still stuck at the 1 hour and 16 minutes remaining point. Not only that, but the ibook seems to have locked up or something as well, as the screen with the firewire display has stopped its random march of the firewire image across the screen and now just sits there stupidly.

So my problem now is what to do next. I know better than to just unplug the firewire cable, and migration assistant is warning me that it's best not to quit the program while transfer is in progress. I can't even access my ibook's hd from my macbook's desktop - when I try I get stuck with the spinning beachball of death (I so thought I was done with that when I got the new macbook). I'm halfway considering that the problem may be with the old ibook and not with migration assistant or with the new computer at all, but I still need to figure out how to get the two computers disconnected from each other so that I can get this all straightened out.

Any advice??
