Hello all. I have a hopefully easy to solve problem. I appreciate any/all assistance for this probably dumb move on my part.

I have had a new MB for several weeks. I couldn’t decide whether to keep it or to upgrade for the Air or Pro now or even return it and continue using my v 2,2 MBP which I still LOVE. Anyways. I let the two week return window slip by for over a week now, so it was definitely time to move everything over to the MB and sell my current MBP.

I decided to use the Migration Assistant this time. In the past, I had always sorta liked the “fresh” install process of all of the applications. But I have a lot of small apps and just really thought it would be great if all of my settings and apps would transfer over. So, I used the Migration Assistant with a Ethernet cable. It took over four hours which I thought was a LOOONNNNGGGG time. I really didn’t expect that.

So, it finished and the first place I checked was my Apps. All of the Apps from my MBP were in there. I then tried opening Firefox hopeful to see all of my bookmarks, but they were not there. I thought maybe Apple doesn’t transfer those settings and bookmarks since it’s not an Apple program.

I then went to my documents, but none of my documents from the MBP were in my new MB. I started browsing through and there was a new user folder. My MBP username was both my first and last name. On my new MB, it is just my first name “Dave.” So, I tried to click on the folders but I could NOT gain access. Just gave me a general you are not permitted to view this folder.

So, how do I get my files? I first thought to change my username on the MBP and retry it but figured getting some advice first would probably help. When I did change the username, under the users in the MBP it still showed davename instead of dave.

So, please help. What do I need to do to get access? Do I need to redo the migration assistant or is there an “EASY” way to just gain access to those files on the new MB? I would prefer everything to just be there on the new MB from the MBP and am willing to redo the Migration Assistant overnight while I sleep.

I have heard great things about this “Migration Assistant” so I hope this is a simple fix.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Cheers.
