Hey everyone,

Just got my refurbished 27" i7 imac, and it is great!

But, I am trying to use migration assistant to copy everything from my macbook. I am using the external hard drive which has a cloned copy of the macbook, made using SuperDuper.

Things go well for awhile. The copy goes fast, and then size of the user on the imac matches the size of the user on the external. Then, it stops. I have gone through the whole process twice. I believe it is copying applications, because after it stalled for 3+ hours I killed it, then logged into the username that I had copied from the macbook. Everything was there, but some of the programs on the dock had I forget what but like an exclamation point so clearly they were not runnable.

Here is the log created during migration assistant.

2010-05-05 15:58:43 -0400 Launching tool /sbin/nfsd ((
stop
))

The last line, stop, is when I kill it. It seems like Parallels might be it ... what do you think? Is there an issue with copying virtual machines or something like that?

If anyone has any insight as to what is causing it to crash (twice now) I would really appreciate it. It is annoying to wait for hours through the process and then have it crash.

Thanks much,

Kevin

Update

Just as an update, that file VCIFO in the log is the last file in the /Users/Shared directory. I can't tell if it copies that file succesfully or not.

Do you think I would have better luck if I used an external drive that had a Time Machine backup instead of a clone using Super Duper?

Thanks again!

Update

Just as an update, when I used an external drive that contained a time machine backup migration assistant completed properly.

Not sure what was wrong with the Super Duper clone, but just wanted to mention this in case it comes up again ...
