I'm curious what type of migration is recommended by those here that update from intel to apple silicon: migration assistant or manually? I'm inclined to do it manually since, based on what I've read, it won't bring over "things" that would slow or bloat the AS system. What are the advantages of a manual migration? Are there any risks associated with migrating data manually?

Thanks!

If your Mac is working well now and not having any issues, then Migration Assistant is likely to work well for you. If you are currently having bugs and problems, it is possible MA will bring those issues over to the new system.

I've used MA for years over multiple Macs and never had a problem.

The downside to doing it manually is if you don't know exactly what you are doing, you can mess things up and lose data.

The key to MA is to run it during the initial new system setup, as opposed to after you already made an account on the new Mac.
