I have an old Macbook and I want to transfer just two programs off of it to a new 2012 Imac( when it arrives). I do not need anything else on it. No logins, files, other programs. Is this possible? One is a music program and one is IDVD.

MacBook is running newest Snow Leooard.

Thanks

it should be duable, I have not done it in a long time but there is a customize option that lets you flag which software and other items individually you want to carry forward.

Just try to run migration assistant from the application>utilities and you can see it.

So go to the MacBook and do a TM backup. Take the hard drive or USB wit the TM backup and plug it up to the new IMac.

The run migration assistant on the new Mac and choose to migrate from the hard drive or USB with the TM on it?

Sorry for the confusion.

Yes pretty much that is the way to bring datas over, could not be simpler.
