Migration assistant questions

Hi everyone,

I had a question about the migration assistant that I'm wondering if anyone knows. I'm trying to transfer files from my old MacBook hard drive to this borrowed MacBook Pro, but the old drive had 100gb of data, whereas the new hard drive only has 74gb of space. The migration assistant right now is stuck on calculating the space needed.... so I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going to happen when it finishes its 'calcuation'. Will I be able to pull files manually or will it try to force the entire backup on the drive, running it out of virtual memory and probably giving me more errors? Any would would be appreciated

Sounds like you told it to do a full restore of old machine.

Why not boot old mac in FireWire target disc mode and then copy what you need?

Yeah, I guess I'll have to just mount the time machine backup and pull files manually. Thanks for the help tho.
