Does anyone have experience with this issue: migrating MS Office: Mac from a MBA1 to a newly purchased MBA 3? I'm about to purchase a new MBA3 but want to be sure I'll be able to move all my MS Word documents from old to new MBA without any problems. I have many Word documents that I need to retain/transfer; I work as an Asst. Editor for a nautical journal and don't want to lose anything. Are there any other migrating issues--programs, etc.--that I need to be aware of when migrating? Is the process as smooth as Apple claims it should be? Thanks for the help.

Why would there be any problems migrating Word documents? The only problems I'm aware of have been when migrating from very old systems on Intel macs to new systems on Apple Silicon, but I assume you're using the latest version of Sequoia on both the M1 and M3 macs, so no reason to be afraid of problems there.
And in the very unlikely event of anything happening during migration the process doesn't erase anything on your old mac, so you still have that and can restart the process from scratch if anything should occur (like a power failure, maybe).

I migrated from a M1 to a M3 without any issue on first try. I don't have MS Office, but I can't see why that would make a difference. Files are files, right?

BTW how are you backing up your work? That's an important question in this, correct, the present migration issue aside.

I have MSOffice. I was originally on a M2 Air and upgraded to a M4 Pro. I used migration assistant and everything moved over without issue. MSOffice had to revalidate and everything was good. The only issue I had was Parallels 19 would not open my virtual machines. I had to upgrade to version 20. Parallels knew about the issue and basically said “tough noogies”. MSOffice is running natively on MacOS without issues.

Are there any other migrating issues--programs
All your data and the apps will get migrated over, but you can bet money you will need to reenter the registration info for the MS Office apps. Happens every time the apps see they are on new/different hardware.

I did not have to do that. The first time I opened a MSOffice app it had to revalidate. After that all the other apps worked without revalidate required. I did not have to enter any information. One caveat. My apps are ones that were purchased at one of those sites that offer cheap versions. I think I paid $30.00. Office 2019. It was a risk but everything has worked with no issues and the apps are fully functional.
