Migration Assistant with Time Machine backup

Just need a little reassurance on the matter.
So, I'm considering selling my MacBook Pro and trading up to the current model.
This means I would be without the original computer for a few days, but I would like to use migration assistant to get all my information transferred.

Will MA through a time machine backup work completely without the original computer, and allow my software to remain on the original as a selling point?
