I will be getting my new iMac later this week and will want to transfer from my current 2007 MacBook Pro. However, I would like a relatively clean install and don't want to transfer, who knows what, junk from my old computer. This is my 1st time transferring from one Mac to another.

My question: Using Migration Assistant, can I pick and choose what I want to transfer to my new computer, or do I have to migrate everything over.

If I can pick and choose, what would you recommend I transfer.

Just as I have driven cars for 50 years, but can't repair the engine, I have owned computers for a long time, PC's up until recently, but do not have a lot of technical knowledge, so please advise accordingly.

Thanks

You can pick what things you want to transfer but not individual files. E.g. you can choose do you want to migrate Apps, Settings, Users etc

Hellhammer,

Thanks for the reply. One more question: If I import all my apps, will it override a newer version on my new machine with an older version from my current machine?

AFAIK it won't overwrite apps that have newer version installed
