I am presently running a 2011 MBP, 2 TB internal drive. The drive is almost full. About 1 TB of that is part of my iTunes Library with the remainder (1.5 TB) located on a RAID array attached to a 2012 Mini Server. I used Tune Span to move the files to the server share.
With Catalina using different apps and apparently not able to support the XML needed to allow Tune Span to work I am looking for migration options.
I am way behind on hardware/software and need to upgrade.
How does Catalina perform the iTunes migration?
Options I have considered so far:
1. New Mac Mini small internal SSD and 4TB external drive for user folders and/or Music/Video/Podcast library.
Not sure how I would get migrated there.
2. New MBP with 4TB SSD; Wow! big $$$$ Migrate existing MBP to 4TB internal SSD, Use Tune Span to move all iTunes files back to systems drive, backup and then migrate to 4TB new MBP.
There seems like a clear path to do this but it costs a lot. I would also wait for the newest MBP with new keyboards.
3. Give up on a new Mac, build Windows 10 computer, get iTunes on a 4TB drive on old Mac, copy to Win 10 and keep going.
Any other migration options?
I am deep into Apple ecosystem (Watch, Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, ATV, Airport Express (audio streaming) so the idea of moving my library to Windows is not the best option to me.
