If a military service member buys a new iPhone, then comes down on orders to transfer overseas, will AT&T waive the ETF? Anyone know? I did search the forum, but there was nothing like a definitive answer to be found.

Generally speaking if a person moves overseas AT&T typically waives the ETF. I'm not sure what the details are but if that's the case, I cannot see why they would not do the same for the military folks.

Call them to confirm.

Yes my husband did this before we were married, when he was deployed overseas. He had to take his orders to an ATT COR store and it was taken care of (no ETF). They usually will let you freeze your account as well. This is once again a few years ago and things have changed. I would go in a store and ask, from experience it is easier to get information that way.:apple:

Found this; it's from 2007, but I don't think they would change this policy.

Can a contract be terminated if the consumer is a military member assigned overseas?

AT&T is a great supporter of the US Military and makes every effort to help active duty military manage their wireless service, including allowing them to temporarily suspend service during overseas deployment at no charge. Additionally if a member of the military at time of deployment elects to cancel his/her service, we will waive the early termination fee.
