I was just watching the first episode of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 10th Anniversary special and one question brought MacRumors to mind. The question was for $25,000 and went something like this...

"The new iPhone 3G S boasts a touchscreen with an 'oleophobic coating' which is specifically designed to do what?"
A) Never scratch
B) Not show fingerprints
C) Display brighter colors
D) Reduce glare

I thought it was funny since I wasn't expecting such an "easy" question at this level. I just thought I would share this with my all my good friends on MacRumors. :)

A) Cause whining all across the internet
B) Create a yellowish tint at the bottom
C) Wear off over time
D) Scratch easily
E) Keep fingerprints away

When I saw the title of this thread, I first thought this thread would be about a millionaire who bought a $25,000 iPhone. (I was expecting it to be encrusted in diamonds or something).

ROFL!

I knew because of WWDC and spending numerous hours on MacRumors and also because I have taken organic chemistry in college. But you are right about many people not knowing.

well did they get the answer right?

Yeah, he got it right. The contestant was a sophomore in college. He wasn't sure, so he used his phone-a-friend.

can we get video of this question being asked on the show?

Since it just aired, it may be a while before there is a video on YouTube.

The word is used outside of the iPhone community as well. The company I work for makes eyeglass lenses and they offer an oleophobic coating.

did you notice how the contestant knew the answer and still phoned somebody? "olephobic? that means shows no fingerprints, right?". Thats almost as bad as buying vowels on wheel of fortune.

well if you didn't have a clue you could easily see that it contains "phobic" which generally means "afraid of" (i.e. hydrophobic is a fear or dislike of water) so that would narrow it down to two; A and B.

pretty obvious from there.
nothing is impervious to scratches. :D
