I was wondering if it is possible to run the new MC 1.6 on a PPC Mac. I don't think so because it has a new launcher and needs Java 1.6, but still, there might be a solution. Please don't reply with vague answers like "no." or "of course not" please explain why and if it is possible with a bit of programming work.

Thanks

My bro REALLY wants to try the new horses and stuff in the new update!

I built a new launcher recently which worked on PPC, but it was relatively easy because it just required bundling up the existing Java binaries into an app bundle.

AFAIK they are building MC 1.6 against Java 6, so no, unless you can find the mythical Java 6 DP9 (it's out there somewhere...) there's not much hope. I tried the SoyLatte builds of OpenJDK 6 and couldn't get it to work myself, perhaps someone else wants to try (there were some incompatible classes). I also tried building OpenJDK 7 from MacPorts, but to no avail.

Does it have to be DP9? can it be DP6/DP8?

In a word no, x86 code for OpenGL i believe but i could be wrong even if it is Java based...

Cheers,

No, there is no x86 code in Minecraft. It is all Java Byte Code and is interpreted by JVM, allowing it to run on any platform.

UPDATE:I have a good news, the magic launcher is WORKING on PPC macs, just go to the forum page (here)and grab the OS X version, not sure if it helps with running 1.6 on PPC but atleast someone still remember us!

Any luck so far? The fix doesn't necessarily have to be n00b friendly, as long as it works.

Did you see this post? You need the newer version.

Unfortunately that's the same as the one I was seeding (just with a different tracker), which is a no-go.
