Hi guys, just wondering could I upgrade my mac mini 2.4 processor to a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz Socket 775 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache? I saw it for a good price and it's got me thinking. Not planning on it right now coz it's pretty fast after I upgraded it's ram to 4gb just thinking for the future, if not what's the best upgrade I could give it?

The CPU in 2009+ Minis cannot be upgraded. Only 2006-2007 Intell based Minis can they be upgraded.

2009 generation to current Mac Minis have the CPU soldered to the board. It is non-user replaceable.

EDIT: Looks like somebody beat me to it.

Ahh well! Lol. Il put it out of mind then! Thanks for the speedy replies guys! Should have sprung for the bigger one when I bought it! Haha.

You would probably notice a bigger boost by installing a SSD for the boot drive. If you want you could update the RAM to 8GB later, but it's not needed right away.

I noticed a major improvement when I upgraded the ram the other day, it only had the 2gb and it was ok to sluggish. Put the 4 in and it's amazing now, can't believe I waited this long! Just thinking about maybe in a year or so when it might need another boost, so thanks for the heads up, il look into a SSD when they drop a bit (good bit) in price.

I don't think you'll notice much of a performance increase going 4 to 8GB RAM, but the SSD will make a big difference. SSD makes my Windows boots/shutdowns, switching users and starting/ending programs a lot faster. I love it. Maybe in a couple of years when the mini gets USB 3.0 then I can get a 2.5" SSD external and the backups will fly too. But I'm really not going to notice much because I don't babysit the backups. It's just nice to think about things to come.
