Given a Lenovo AIO with HDMI-in 1.4 and its 27" 2560x1440 @ 144Hz monitor, can i connect the Macmini to it using HDMI and use the full resolution/refresh rate? Meaning can it run at 1440p 144Hz on the HDMI IN 1.4 port? Or anything higher than 60Hz at all?

Would MacOS be able to use HiDPI mode on 1440p (or 1080p if i want bigger fonts) on this setup?

You might get 75hz.
But I doubt you'll see any faster refresh rates than that on the Mini.

I could be wrong.

yea, also read about some 70-80Hz being the limit on HDMI 1.4 at 1440p
but isn't there some limitation in MacOS that won't allow a certain clockspeed MHz value greater than 160-something on HDMI out?

how about the fonts, will i be able to see HiDPI at 1440p? I'm not expecting retina quality but at least Hidpi looks better at 1440/1080 than 1:1 pixels.

*****, i think for the 1440p screen to get hidpi mode it has to be set at 720..:(
same as in case of a 4K monitor where hidpi is available at 1080 only...
correct?

i think for the purpose of this experiment i'll settle for a 2014 mini model, modded with SSD and I7 + 16gb ram. It should be able to run mojave/catalina decently yes? price is less than 1/2 of a mid-tier 2018 model...

i don't need a new computer, just to get rid of the Hackintosh partition i have on the AIO :) and get the "real thing"...photos library, browsing, some imovie editing, etc...

why are you guys so keen to use hdmi ports over display ports? just use a usb-c to display port cable (not adaptor). it should run 144hz with no issues

because the monitor only has a HDMI 1.4 input?

To answer my own question, i got a 2018 mini and it connects at 1440p @ 60Hz over HDMI 1.4
