I have been toying around with upgrading my Mini 4 for a little bit now. Especially after I saw prices for the 10.5" come down to $530 around Black Friday. While I love my Mini, it has gotten a little long in the tooth since I upgraded to iOS 11. It still works great, but moving between my iPhone X and Mini, I notice everything is not as fluid and smooth as on my X.

For the most part, I use my Mini to browse the web, check email/iMessage and primarily video consumption (PS Vue, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video).

I would do all the same things with a new iPad, but in addition, I would also process RAW files from my Fujifilm X100F to Lightroom Mobile to edit.

I should also note that my iPad never really leaves the house. The only time it does is when my wife and I travel.

For those that moved from the Mini to the 10.5", do you have any regrets? Or have you embraced the upgrade? Is the 10.5" overkill for what I plan to use the device for?

I know 9.7" is an option, but I honestly don't like the thicker bezels (silly as it seems).

Think how i feel, i still use my ipad mini 2! I use it for all the things you mentioned plus video editing and sketching. Unlike you however, i do travel with my mini all the time. I would very much like to upgrade to a pro model as well. If i did, the 10.5" would be the one for me and i do recommend it'd be a great upgrade for you as well.

I am waiting to see if Apple does release an ipad mini pro tho. I am hoping for some news in March or April...but I can wait until perhaps next Summer for the next ipad pro updates.

My mini 2 is really on its last leg. The screen is cracked and the physical home button doesnt work anymore. I had to set up a virtual home button. It works, but is annoying. I also notice that the mini is getting slower in a lot of apps and tasks. Im used to it, but when i go to the Apple store to check out current ipads, it becomes glaringly obvious.

Again, i will wait a bit longer. But i really am looking forward to updating soon.

If you want to edit RAW photos then the iPad Pro 10.5 is the next route. It truly is fast. I find myself taking it with me to work because its really light in my bag. Video looks really great on it. I didn't go with the 9.7 Pro or 2017 model because I wanted a bigger jump from what I had and a faster processor.
