Mini Display adapter problem

Hi, I'm having recent problems when connecting my MBP 13'' to a projector using the Mini Display -> VGA adapter it only projects like a small piece of the screen, so when I play a presentation in Keynote nothing appears in the projection. Any ideas of what is hapenning?

Are you using it with your laptop closed or open?

Yes, the laptop is open

I think the problem was when I lent my laptop to a friend and he configured some stuff in the Preferences-> Display

Try running it in clamshell mode, display closed and see if it defaults to using the external full screen. You'll need an ext. keyboard/mouse but any USB should work.

Does that use WiFi or BT? Both work in clamshell. You may have to play with them but have a USB or BT keyboard and mouse handy since you won't have access to anything without.

Is this the apple adapter or the monoprice.com one? I had a lot of issues with the monoprice one, Apples wound up working just fine though!
