Mini Display Port Question

I have the late Macbook Pro 2009 which have the mini display port and Im buying a external monitor. The question is if I just buy a DVI cable will it work with the DVI external monitor or I need to buy a Mini Display Port?

No, you need the one that spinnerlys posted. They are a little cheaper elsewhere (here for example).
