Mini Display Port Screens

I have a Macbook Air (2011) and it's developed an issue where it just won't connect to any Mini display port screens, I'd plug it in, the built-in display will stay blue until it's disconnected. It will work perfectly fine with Thunderbolt screens though

I've done the usual PRAM and SMC resets but made no difference and also trashed the com.apple.windowserver preference file

Would you say this is more a hardware fault with the graphics card?
