hi all I have a MBP october 2011 i5. that i want to hook up to my Sony Bravia lcd/led tv
There are 2 options available.
1. mini display to hdmi adapter + hdmi cable

2. mini display to hdmi cable

wondering what option is best or is there no difference.
 
Define "best". They accomplish the same thing. As you've said, with the adapter you also need an HDMI cable. Which is best depends on your criteria.

Either way is fine, in my experience though the adapter will break quicker than the cable.
 
Digital signal is digital. It either goes through, or it doesn't. Buy whichever is cheaper, they'll accomplish the same thing.
 
Found out that most mini display adapters use arm chips in them only allowing 720p max not full 1080p.

at the moment hooking my pc to macbook using a borrowed cable, max was 720p. also for some reason the pc mode is blacked out so i cant use that. which should work. must do some more testing before my friend needs his cable back.
