mini display to hdmi macbook no sound

i bought my Macbook in August of 2010 and i recently tried to connect it to a tv through the mdp but i didnt get any sound, i then tried my girlfriends macbook pro and there was sound, is my macbook just not capable of transmitting sound?

Your assumption is correct. Sound out on the new models is supported by everything but the MacBook(White 13") and the Mac Pro(Desktop). Sorry.
