Mini display to HDMI sound solutions?

I am just curious to hear about what other people are doing to get sound from their macbooks or macbook pros when using the Mini display to HDMI adapter to hook up to a larger display.

Regualr ol' computer speakers

I'm just using the headphone jack and two computer speakers.

with the option can the sound be controlled by the macbook, or receiver only? chur
