Mini-displayport cable - iMac

Just got a new iMac 5k... wondering if I can use my Dell 27" monitor which is connected to my old (early 2010) MBP via a mini-displayport<>displayport cable on the iMac?

As I understand it, the mini-displayport connector can be plugged in to the thunderbolt port on the iMac.

Anyone?

Yep works fine, I evetually got mini DP to HDMI works fine....

Yes, Thunderbolt is compatible with Mini DisplayPort output when you use a Mini DisplayPort cable.
