Does anyone know if the Air supports audio and video over Mini Displayport to HDMI? The website doesn't specifically say yes or no. Anyone with an Air able to try this?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Yes. Another thread had a guy that tested it and says it works fine.

Yes, HDMI audio is listed in System Profiler amongst the audio outputs

Is there someone who purchased a hdmi adapter with audio flux from China ?. Or what do you bought which features has ?

If you are in the UK, I can recommend this Mini Display to HDMI cable from Neet Cables, available via Amazon.co.uk - click here - £12.95, free delivery and arrived within 48 hours. They give excellent customer service too, and no, I'm honestly not connected to them in any way, just a happy customer! :)

Probably has English as second language. Assume writer is asking whether Air specs relate to full HDMI capabilities.

Sorry guys, my mistake.

@Epoche you said it right: english is my second language but also it was early morning when i wrote it .

In that message i asked which specs should have the adapter to be capable to transport also the audio flux. However, i have a cheap MiniDP-HDMI adapter bought on DealExtreme that does not support audio across the HDMI.

What are your typical uses for this setup with minidisplay port to HDMI? Movies stored on your computer played on your HD TV's?

Just wondering as I have the 13 inch MBA Ultimate and also a 2010 15 inch MBP i7 and would like to extend their capabilities.

Thanks.

I currently have my macbook air hooked up to my tv through a mini display port to hdmi. Audio goes to the tv which is great! And I stream all my movies from my desktop.

i have a macbook air 13.3" with Moshi adapter plugged into the MiniDisplay port and a brand new HDMI cable. great video, but no sound to my TV. Anyone know if this adapter works? The package is ambiguous:

"supports audio output
MacBook, MacBook Pro & iMac"

they don't mention the Air, but is it included under the general category "Macbook"? Has anyone else tried this adapter? Thanks.

More info on my problem (above). When I go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and select HDMI it says "selected device has no output controls" and plays no audio. When I select back to "internal speakers" in that same area, it starts playing the sound again

Under System Profiler > Audio (Built In) > It says "HDMI / DisplayPort output", and then in the pane below says "Connection: Display"

Does this mean my MBA doesn't support audio output through the mini DP? Or should I return this Moshi adapter and try another brand?

For what it's worth I *thought* I had the same problem others report: bought MDP to HDMI, video goes to TV just fine, but no audio, system preferences sound shows hdmi option but still no sound, etc.

My MDP to HDMI is from monoprice.com. On a mbook air 13".

It was sort of a nonsense solution: I went through my TV's sound settings and there was an option to turn off the TV's built in speakers. I used this to just turn them off and turn them back on again and voila, I got sound.

I don't doubt a lot of other TV's may have some silly glitch like this.

Anyways, yet another cheap MDP to HDMI cable does, in fact, transmit audio from a macbook air, nothing wrong with my macbook or my cable, just a weird TV property.

Worth fiddling with your TV sound properties.

My monoprice cable definitely didn't transmit sound. Monoprice's website says their cables don't transmit sound. Which cable do you have?

I am thinking about buying the monoprice adapter, it says it can support audio. Any other reviews on this?

Monoprice works with audio

My new Mini Displayport to HDMI from Monoprice.com outputs both video and audio to my TV. You have to select HDMI under Output under Sounds in System Prefs.

Yep, my Monoprice does audio as well. I didnt think it would, as I usually just use it for my external monitor, but I threw it on the HDTV one day and sure enough, just set the sound preference, and it works.

I have spend an age on the help line asking if the new MacBook Air will play the audio through the TV to support the movies using an iwire HDMI cable. Eventually they told me no it wont.
However, from System Preferences - Sound - Output (and made sure the HDMI was plugged in to the TV) it allowed me to toggle between the devices named. Namely, the Internal Speakers and the Panasonic TV and it actually worked
