I just bought a mid-2012 15" MBPr. In anticipation of receiving it, I bought a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter off of Amazon. When I got my new computer, I noticed that it has an HDMI port already - wasn't expecting that. So do I not need the adapter after all if I want to watch on a TV (and get audio through the TV speakers), or should I stick with the adapter -> HDMI configuration? I'll just be playing movies/TV/whatever on VLC and watching through the TV.
The adapter was only $10, but if it's worth returning, that's $10 I can spend on other Mac stuff. :-D
