mini dv tapes into an emac

I am looking to buy a mini dv camcorder to transfer some old dv tapes from a broken camcorder into my emac. The new camcorders seem to all come with firewire and I'm not sure if my 4 year old emac has firewire and if the software with any of the cameras would work with my old MAC OS 10.3.9. Any suggestions?
