considering that currently avchd cameras can barely eek out 30 minutes of recording on a DL DVD at 13MBts....

My take on MiniDVD is that it's a consumer only medium - records very highly comrpessed video not intended for serious or professional editing.

Which is why they have just intro'd a mini-BluRay recordable disc. It's 7.5GB on a single layer disc. It's supposed to hold 1 hour of 1080i video.

It will be interesting to see MiniDVD and flash memory duke it out. The MiniDVDs offer immediate backup (just put the disc on shelf), but flash memory will have price and capacity on it's side. My money's going to be on flash as most consumers, IMO, won't be forward thinking enough to say "Hey, what's a good/affordible long term storage solution for all my videos."

do we have any timeline for when these blueray dvds are expected to hit the market? or more importantly, the cameras?
