I've got the 13" MacBook unibody and I'm using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter to connect my macbook to my tv. When I connect it to the tv (32" Sharp LCD), it just shows the background display. I've tried to play videos through VLC and it doesn't show up at all. Anyone have a remedy to this? I've tried messing with some settings and other things to get it to show up but I haven't had any success.

Thanks for any help

Are you in screen spanning or screen mirroring mode (check in Display Preferences). If mirroring you'll need to either drag the video window to the secondary display or, perhaps, for full screen set the external display as the primary.

Some solutions are so simple, you just don't think of it
