I just purchased an adapter to connect my imac (intel core duo) to my lcd hdtv. I am using a mini dvi to hdmi adapter. When i plugged it into my imac and it recognized my tv right away as another display. Is this the best way to get video to my tv? Is there another way to achieve better video quality?

What you are doing should be fine. The path is all digital, so this is the best quality you can get.

That depends on what other video outputs that iMac has
Well, no, it doesn't - the OP is already using the highest-quality video output. Any other outputs will be of lower quality. How can you get better than direct digital video into the TV?
