Hi, I just bought a vga to component (Y Pb Pr) cable to be finally able to connect my Macbook to my HD ready TV (of the worst kind available: no HDMI, no VGA, no DVI)

I was already able to connect to it using composite, only to discover the maximum resolution was 1024x768, leading to a distorted and less than ideal image.

I already had a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, so I decided to buy a VGA to component cable from eBay.

The problem however, is that the image is hardly coming through: flashes of image appear on screen, diagonally distorted, green and purple hazes and very jitterish. You can see a quick video of it here.

Does anyone know what causes this? is it a bad cable or something about this specific setup?

additional info: when connecting the Y cable to composite, which normally gives you a grayscale image, I get the same distorted image in grayscale.
