I have a Late 2014 Mini, attached to a 24" Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD display using the HDMI output on the Mini, through an Apple HDMI->DVI adapter, into the Samsung on its DVI port. Has worked fine for years. In preparation for using the Samsung with the Mini M1, I tried attaching HDMI -> HDMI, skipping the DVI conversion, and using an HDMI cable that has worked OK between my Camcorder and TV. While I got an image (once I selected HDMI input on the Samsung), it was bad in a few serious ways.

(1) The image was slightly oversized, by about 1/2" all the way around. Meant my top and side menus/icons were missing. I could move my mouse past the edges of the screen and get some results, but unreliably given the invisibility.

(2) The resolution looked like 6 bit instead of 8 bit, noticeably ragged.

(3) The color was a bit garish.

I could fuss with the size and color cast in the Mac OS (High Sierra) setups, but could not avoid the lower resolution. So, a few questions:

(1) Has anyone been using the M1 successfully with HDMI -> HDMI on a monitor similar to my Samsung, with both DVI and HDMI input options?

(2) Has anyone used the M1 successfully with HDMI -> DVI on a monitor like mine?

(3) Anyone know why I'd be getting my flawed HDMI -> HDMI results using my current system?

Thanks!

No problem with HDMI monitors on my 2014 Mini. Have you looked at all the built-in menus on your screen? My monitor(s) are actually TV sets and they have a separate "PC" mode which turns off some of the effects that are used to (supposedly) make TV pictures look better.

This is a monitor, but also a TV set. I’ve never used it as a TV, only DVI monitor. I’ve looked over the built-in menus, but only the Sources menu seemed obviously relevant. The Samsung manual I downloaded was useless, didn’t show any actual menus, made no mention of any HDMI connector, showed DVI attachment vertical rather than my horizontal, etc. Frustrating! The menus are bewildering using their interface. I’m looking for the remote, which is supposed to make it easier.
