I’m working on upgrading my late-2006 24” iMac. I never realized the Bluetooth card was in a mini PCIe slot.
I’ve read about people installing mini PCIe SATA cards to either add another internal drive or to create eSATA ports.
Has anyone gotten a mini PCIe to PCIe slot adapter to work?
I’ve seen them with short ribbon cables between the mini PCIe and PCIe slots or with long USB (?) cables that would allow the PCIe slot board to be mounted in an external enclosure.
I’m not thinking of trying to run a graphics card this way but am wondering if I could fit a Matrox CompressHD H.264 video compression card inside. It’s a 1x half-height card. Another option would be to use a Matrox interface card that is about half that size and connects to their external capture devices some of which also have the MAX H.264 compression technology. I know el gato has a HD H.264 encoder but I’ve read that it’s quality is not great.
Even if a PCIe adapter won’t work I’m interested in hearing about other mini PCIe cards that have worked in the 2006 iMac. When googling it’s card to distinguish between what’s been tried in a 2007+ and what applies to the 2006.
