MiniDisplay Port to VGA Firmware update

I recently bought a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter in ebay.
It clearly doesn't work properly, when I plug it into my MBP the most of the times, it does nothing.

I blame the cable itself but now I have just found out this:

Has anybody tried this?

I have just tried this, and having the adapter plugged in, and the external display on, it keeps asking me to plug the Mini-DP Adapter.

Watching in the logs the message:
"No DongleFlashResult" is shown
