MiniDP/thunderbolt to HDMI only working on some TV's

I've just bought a mini displayport to HDMI cable to wire from my Thunderbolt port to my HD TV. The cable works fine on my Samsung tv but i am having no luck whatsoever when cabling to my older Sanyo TV. Any suggestions?

What exact cable (link), Samsung and Sanyo model are you talking about?
And what exact Mac do you have?
And what exact Mac OS X version do you use?

Is it the apple cable or some fake?
