Is there a way to minimize opened apps by clicking on the app in dock?

Dock shortcuts…: "alt+click > Hides that app and moves to the one behind... (command+h)"

Mac keyboard shortcuts:
“Command-M: Minimize the front window to the Dock. To minimize all windows of the front app, press Option-Command-M.”

Change Dock & Menu Bar preferences on Mac:
“Double-click a window’s title bar to … minimize: Minimize an app window to the Dock.”
“Minimize windows into application icon
Minimize an app window to the app icon in the Dock. If the option isn’t selected, the window is minimized to an area in the Dock.”

The alternative for this setting is Zoom. But for this window, the effect is not very dramatic. Double-clicking again makes it return to its previous size. I see that the green button now invokes fullscreen. In the past, and this might date me, having recently upgraded from Mojave, the green button would expand the window to the minimum size needed by the app for viewing its entire content. That's a bad description, sorry. So I wonder if the double-click>Zoom now does what the green button used to do.
