minimize window by double clicking top bar?

so I just got my first macbook and I know on my friends' that when you double click the top bar of a window, where you would click to drag the window, it minimizes that window. On mine, it does nothing....
I have searched for this in the help menues and searched all the options in system preferences, but I didn't see anything.
any thoughts?

Duff-Man says....you must have missed it - look in the "Appearance" preference pane and you see an option for "double click a window's title bar to minimize" - that where you turn the feature on or off....oh yeah!
