it won't mean anything. if anything, you can probably make up any difference by having more RAM than what the requirements call for.
those requirements are pretty loose, and are based on what the company thinks is needed to run smoothly. not run at all, but run smootly. and smoothly is a very subjective term... whereas one of the LaCie engineers may get flustered if something doesn't happen in under x seconds, it might not bother you if it takes a bit longer, or if there's a slight lag.
