Looking for the best solution or recommendation for a miniport to HDMI cable which supplies audio; plus suggestion of best place to buy???

I know Apple Store has a Kanex adapter, is that the best solution????

Thanks

the above solution is only necessary if you have an older mac, the newer ones carry over sound IF the cable is able to do so, this should be specified when you buy the cable; could you tell us which computer you are using?

last week there was a similar post like that.

You can go with the moshi MDP to HDMI adapter. They sell it at Apple Store.

Sorry, should of mentioned that. I have a 13" MBP made in Nov of 2010..... Just not wanting to waste $$ on getting something more then I really need to have...

I bought one at the Apple Store last year, it worked good but then I returned when the new Apple TV came out about three days later. They returned to full refund. I can't remember which one they had at the Apple Store but I am pretty sure it was the only one they had at the time.

This is all you need right here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

It's what I use and it works great!

Will the Apple TV do the same as these adapters or not??

Hmm--odd they don't seem to have an updated cable that supports audio on Monoprice--I take it needs to support Mini DisplayPort 1.1a--oh well--looks like the product from Meritline is the winner--thanks for pointing that out. :)

No, the Apple TV will stream content from iTunes. The adapters are used for a second display. If you want to just watch content from iTunes I would recommend the Apple TV.

i found two that support audio from monoprice, one analog and one digital:

analog:

digital:

note that the analog version shows currently out of stock. i think i'm going to get the digital one here versus the kanex one as the reviews are pretty bad on amazon for longterm reliability for the kanex one

Go to BestBuy and get the Dynex mini DVI-to-HDMI adapter from the Mac section. I've got one and it does both video and sound. I have the mid 2010 model also. Got mine in November of 2010 and have no problems with pulling audio through that adapter. I don't see it posted on the site, but I know we carry it at the BestBuy I work at. It looks the same as mini DVI-to-DVI/VGA except it has a HDMI on the other end. It's about the same price as the other dynex ones, around $20 or so.

Once you plug it in just go to your settings and change the sound so it will output onto your tv.
