Hey!
So, I've been tasked with coming up with a solution for my boss. He has a couple Mac Pros containing several terabytes of data and a couple 32TB backup RAIDs in both locations. One of them is located in his office, and the other at home.
His Goal: To have the two machines mirror each other exactly and backup in both locations as well.
My best idea (and I don't even know if this is actually possible without some time to experiment) was to set up OS X server and a VPN and manage the users this way, with the home computer being constantly connected via VPN and have the user login and access all of his files directly from the office Mac. Any changes would actually be made on the computer at the office, but it *should* appear as if its all local (assuming his home internet speeds are fast enough).
For the backup, I guess I would just backup once with the office computer, clone the RAID, and plug it in and set it to also backup to the second. This would all be done at the office, I would take the home setup to his home and plug it all in, and ensure it VPNs to the office and appears seamless.
If you have a better suggestion or a reason why this wouldn't work... thats what I'm here for. He told me it doesn't matter what the cost... so be as creative as you want as long as his computer at home appears exactly the same as the one at his office, and they both are able to backup locally when its all said and done.
