Mirroring in Yosemite

Which mirroring option do you recommend for my 11-inch base model Air running Yosemite - AirPlay via Apple TV or just hook it in with the Mini DisplayPort? I've heard that some have experienced lag with AirPlay mirroring and wouldn't recommend it.
