Mirroring problem Mac book pro 2008 15inch

I have been vjing for a long time no problem and suddenly, when I check in preferences the screen option for output is not responding, Im not allowed to mirror my computer so that outputs to a projector. Have updated to josomite, still problem persists.

Any ideas why? ...........solutions helpful.

Might be the 8600GT GPU that's on its way out.
