Misfit today announced the debut of Misfit Link, a new app that's designed to add new capabilities to the Misfit Flash, which is the company's inexpensive activity and sleep tracker.

With the Misfit Link app, a Misfit Flash can be morphed into a multi-function Bluetooth-connected smart button that can perform tasks like controlling music or activating the camera button on the iPhone for selfies.

The new Misfit Link app lets you use any Flash to take a selfie with your phone camera app or Snapchat; control your music with Spotify, Pandora, and more; or advance slides in a presentation. Additional functionality is coming soon, including IFTTT and Logitech Harmony integrations. The iOS app is available for download now; an Android version will be released next month.
Misfit is also debuting the Misfit Flash Link, an even less expensive activity tracker and smart button that's able to work with the Misfit Link app, much like the Misfit Flash. The company is also lowering its prices on the Misfit Shine and the Misfit Flash, which are now available for $70 and $30, respectively. Previously the two devices were priced at $100 and $50.

Both the Misfit Shine and the Misfit Flash look similar, but where the Shine uses aluminum, the Flash uses a cheaper plastic. The Misfit Flash is lighter, but the Shine has better water resistance. The even cheaper Flash Link has the same circular design as the Shine and the Flash, and it includes the same activity and sleep tracking functions, but it comes with a clip rather than a bracelet.

All three products can be purchased from the Misfit website. The Misfit Shine is priced at $69.99, the Misfit Flash is priced at $29.99, and the Misfit Link is priced at $19.99.

The new Misfit Link app is available from the App Store for free and will work with both new and existing Misfit Flash devices.

May have to try this for $20. If anything, it can be a glorified camera remote :)

They just agreed to send me a replacement for my apparently defective flash. I wonder if they'll send a direct replacement, or one of the new ones. I guess we shall see.

Have they fixed the band on the Misfit Flash yet? Three bands now, all snapped, all risked losing the device. Horrible attitude of support, they thought they could just keep sending the same bands with the same broken design.

Hmm. I've been thinking about jumping into the activity/sleep monitor stuff but reviews all over the map and high-ish prices have held me back. For $20 though this is almost like "why not?" territory.

EDIT - well I took the plunge. $20, free shipping, no tax.

Their website is very confusing.
As a new (and happy) Shine user, I agree that their website is very confusing. Flash. Flash Link. Flash Link app. What's the difference between the two Flash models? Is the Link only a clip?

I have to say, I used my Shine as a clip for a week and lost it three times. Anytime I'd walk close by something metallic, it'd get yanked off my pocket. It's seriously magnetic! Now I have the band and the problem is solved. But the Flash is plastic, so that shouldn't be a problem. Still, that small of a clip would make me nervous.

I would like the water resistance of the Shine, apparently it's good for swimming and everything, but it just looks so small and girly, I don't think I would want to wear it.

There are a bunch of band choices out there. I've got the basic black (with grey Shine) and think it looks decidedly un-girly!

The device works great, and the app is designed well. But that plastic. By the lords of kobol between the design of it just sitting in there and the apparent low quality of the plastic I went through two bands and clips (support keeps sending replacements but what is the point). I generally liked clipping the flash into my pocket or shoe but that freakin plastic. I just leave the thing in my pocket now and I got a little griffin pouch to put on my shoe when I go biking.

I give the flash 5/5 for price and performance but the attachment accessories 1/5. Here's hoping with this new version they have rectified the design/material issues with the band/clip.

I wish they'd quit making new 1-function apps and combine them. Misfit Home to control my Bolt light; Misfit for activity; Misfit Link for added functions... Plus they continue releasing apps that are missing the key promised features at launch. (Misfit Link app barely adds any features beyond what Misfit app already does; promised control of Hue and Nest conspicuously missing. Misfit Home app launched without the highly-touted sunrise wake feature.) Get with it, Misfit.
