2x4GB from Apple, 2x8GB from Crucial. 24GB total. My 2008 MacPro runs faster with every slot filled, regardless of sizes as long as they are installed as matched pairs. I just know some machines like all the slots (if you fill them) to be filled with the same sized memory to get a little speed boost. I'm not familiar with how the IB motherboards are in this respect.
Yes, I'm aware if it's happening the boost is almost imperceptible, but it's nice to know it's there. Otherwise I'll just buy the matching 4GBx2 kit they offer and be happy with 16. I don't need 24GB, but I have a little spare cash at the moment and figure 24GB will last me the life of the machine.
/edit. Moot point, I just ordered 32GB from Newegg. Nevermind.
