I got the new TP-Link Kasa HomeKit plug set up. However, did it via the Home app only and not through the Kasa app. Don't want to mess with anything by going into the Kasa app since the plug is working as needed. Is there anything I'm missing out by not using the Kasa app?

Firmware updates for starters. That’s usually the main reason to keep the manufacturers app on hand.

Yeah, I guess there's that. However, after a past experience, I'm one who mainly follows the "if it ain't broke, don't firmware update it" motto. Well, one exception is if there's a big security flaw somewhere.

I’m with ya but then there’s also the benefits of redundancy. Not sure what you’re using the plugs for but for something critical, like a security camera, it’s good to have a secondary app in case HomeKit crashes and the accessory goes “No Response.” HomeKit has been getting increasingly buggy with every iOS update and this is not uncommon.

Ahh, you make a good point about the backup for the "No response" times. I have come across that before. Right now it's just controlling the Christmas tree lights so nothing mission critical, but good to keep that in mind if I start setting up other devices. Thx.

Yeah I don’t mind the third party apps. I keep them tucked away in my App Library, ready to get the call if needed. If I had a 16GB iPhone, then I could see it being a possible issue lol.
